Workplan
WP1 – Project Management
WP1 aims at a number of important aspects linked to the effective operation of the project. It coordinates all technical, scientific and administrative activities in addition to the production of a quality assessment and monitoring plan. Moreover, it ensures that the project activities are compliant with the project contract, description of work, quality plan, and related IPR and legal issues. Furthermore, WP1 ensures that an efficient and productive. communication and interactive process takes place between the consortium partners. Finally, WP1 produces reports on the project’s progress and ensures the effective use of resources for realising the project objectives.
WP2 – Project dissemination and outreach activities
WP2 is nominal in the visibility and popularisation of MEDIATE. This is going to be achieved by defining and following an effective dissemination strategy, including continuous social presence, participation of EU events, collaboration with related projects, and hosting workshops and events. Within WP2 existing market conditions will be analysed and a mapping of MEDIATE’s results to market needs will be performed. Moreover, a commercialisation roadmap will be defined along with a business model for the long-term sustainability of the MEDIATE framework. Finally, all relevant developments will be taken into consideration to ensure that the project contributes results that are relevant to the latest standards and policies.
WP3 – Requirements and Specifications
The objectives of WP3 are to achieve a solid and usable foundation on which the MEDIATE technologies can be developed and tested. Hence, WP3 is going to offer a set of requirement and specification metrics that will have to be fulfilled by the MEDIATE framework and its components/technologies such that its operation can be considered adequate and acceptable. The tangible proof of this, is going to be demonstrated by ensuring that the use case-specific requirements and specifications, also provided within WP3, are met during the evaluation phase of the project. The remaining objective of WP3 is the definition of a detailed and accurate architecture for the MEDIATE framework, which is going to outline the relations between the different components of MEDIATE.
WP4 – Hardware & Software Development of Sentinel Technologies
Work package 4 focuses on technologies that are linked with the MEDIATE sentinel(s). The objectives of this work package are multiple and span form the hardware level to the software level of the sentinel. Hence, WP4 will deliver the security sensors and modules implemented at hardware level by the edge and cloud sentinels. Also, it will develop the technology according to which those modules will be programmed into the FPGA fabric as well as the methodology for their secure and isolated implementation. Furthermore, WP4 is going to develop technologies that support trusted execution and isolation by the sentinels’ processors as well as the software level security tools and services of the IoT, edge and cloud-level sentinels. Finally, the last objective of WP4 is the successful integration of the software and hardware-level technologies for the HW-based edge and cloud-level sentinels such that they operate in unison and are hosted by the same platform.
WP5 – Overwatch modules and platform Orchestration
The objectives of work package 5 are broad in scope since they address the functional characteristics of the MEDIATE overwatch module(s) and orchestrator. Altogether, they are five and represent the main components of the overwatch module as well as the MEDIATE orchestrator. Specifically, this work package is going to produce the technologies necessary for the implementation of the decision support engine, cyber-threat intelligence, security and privacy policy management and, finally, sentinel reconfiguration and redeployment of the overwatch module. In addition to those, work package five is going to address the generation of an orchestrator that will reside at the top of the framework stack and facilitate the communication of knowledge and interrelation among the framework’s overwatch modules.
WP6 – Integration & Evaluation of MEDIATE framework
The objectives of WP6 are meant to assist in the comprehension of MEDIATE’s efficacy as well as to its wider use. Hence, this work package is going to support the integration activities among the different framework component providers so that it generates the final MEDIATE framework prototype. Subsequently, it will move onto an evaluation phase whereby the framework is going to be applied on a number of pilot and use case-oriented scenarios and its performance will be recorded and evaluated against the requirements and specifications of work package three. With the evaluation information available, WP6 is then going to assess the project against the objectives that it originally set out to fulfil. The final objective of WP6 is to provide a set of best practices and guidelines for the wider use of the MEDIATE framework.
