Mediate

Introducing the MEDIATE Consortium: ALKE

ALKE is a European manufacturer of professional zero emissions vehicles used for transportation, logistics and other multifunctional or special operations. Based in the North of Italy, with 30 years of experience and thousands of vehicles on the market, ALKE is a key player at international level into the E-mobility sector positioning its products on the high-end level in terms of quality and performance. ALKE electric vehicles are sold today in more than 40 countries worldwide covering all continents and can count among its customers best in class industry players, bigger institutions and most prestigious locations.
Alkè is involved in international research projects of electric and zero emission mobility as specialist in the automotive sector. The Alke’ R&D department collaborates with research projects at international level as a specialist in the automotive and electric mobility sector. The projects that Alke’ works on focus on prototyping complete solutions (innovative electric vehicles for specific applications or sectors) as well as testing individual components and equipment (motors, control electronics, batteries, range extenders, remote diagnostics, etc.) and special materials (composites, special alloys, etc.).

Alkè’s role in the Mediate project is to provide a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) that will be used as a mobile access hub. The ALKE use case will validate the MEDIATE secure platform solution in the automotive sector. It will demonstrate the solution in three main situations involving the attack surface of last-mile deliveries using EV hubs:

  1. a) Attack on the sensing layer: Here we look at how intruders could attack the guidance system, particularly the sensor system, which could cause the vehicle’s control unit to malfunction, putting passengers and other road users at risk.
  2. b) Cloud-level attacks: Apart from detecting and stopping cyber attacks on the vehicle, MEDIATE also makes the system more resistant to cyber-attacks at higher levels, including hacking the cloud platform.

c) Attack on the lockers: This example shows how the MEDIATE solution provides a security layer for the physical lockers on board mobile hubs. This prevents people from gaining access without permission and taking parcels without authorisation.
